Youth Awards: Shakira becomes the top winner with eight awards

Colombian singer Shakira rose this Thursday as the top winner of the twentieth edition of the Youth Awards in Puerto Rico after receiving eight awards. “This island that I adore and meeting all of you and receiving all of this, truly thank you,” declared the artist, dressed in a red dress and heels before the packed Coliseo de Puerto Rico in San Juan.

Shakira also sent a message of thanks to all her followers, emphasizing that they are her “greatest luck.”

“They accompany me in all my joys, they accompany me in all my struggles, and for you I want to be a better musician, the best artist and, if possible, the best person”said the singer, adding that “there should be an award for the fans.”

“They are the best fans in the world, I love them, I will always love them”stressed the Colombian.

During the gala it was announced that Shakira won the award for Best Pop/Urban Song for her song “Shakira: BZRP Music Sessions #53″ and immediately after it was reported that she had also won seven other awards.

The singer won the prizes for Artist Premios Juventud Femenina, Best Song for My Ex (for her song TQG), Girl Power (TQG), Best Urban Track (TQG), Best Song, Best Urban Pop Collaboration, Tropical Mix and Social Dance Challenge.

Shakira led, along with Bad Bunny, Becky G, Maluma, rauw alejandro, rosalia, Frontier Group, Featherweight and TINI, the 2023 Youth Awards with nine nominations.

In the same way, Shakira received this year the “Change Agent” recognition for her extensive work in transforming communities for 23 years through her Pies Descalzos Foundation, an award that the Cuban-American singer also took. camila cabello.

“There are realities that cannot be filtered or made up, there are places where people who are born poor die poor because they have no opportunity,” denounced Shakira after taking the stage for the second time.

“To be an agent of change, you only have to differentiate what is right from what is wrong, you have to believe that it is possible to change things, and not let anyone tell you otherwise, that is power and you have that power , and if they are angry and if exclusion makes them uncomfortable (…) they will be the true agents of change”, asserted the artist.

For the past six years, Premios Juventud has been committed to highlighting change agents, both artists and Latino youth who use their platform for the greater good.

Daddy Yankee, the top winner of the Premios Juventud with 23 awards, also obtained recognition in 2021 as “Change Agent”, a tribute that was previously granted to Maluma, J Balvin, Kany Garcia and Ricky Martin, among others.

During the 20-year history of the Premios Juventud, and after tonight’s eight awards, the Colombian has won a total of 23 awards.

The recognitions for her career do not stop, in May she was also honored by Billboard as “Woman of the Year” during the celebration of the first event “Latin Women in Music” at the Watsco Auditorium in Miami.

Award she earned for her “extraordinary” achievements in music, such as becoming the first woman to reach the Top 10 on the list of bill board with “Shakira: BZRP Music Sessions #53″.
