He studied medicine for 4 years and left it for music. He now sings with Kevin Johansen

Carlos Cruzalegui It is no longer a promise of Peruvian and Latin American music. Now it is an absolute reality. After dazzling Susana Baca with his prodigious voice, he was recognized by the Argentine-American Kevin Johansen as an artist whose talent “goes beyond the stratosphere.” The national singer-songwriter announces Despertar, a musical journey of total dedication and truth that will transcend convention.

Despertar will take place this February 27 at the Teatro Nos de San Isidro. Its name alludes to a call to action to dare to feel, to explore, to gather courage and act. It comes after ‘Adormecido’, a song that inspired a presentation we did at the Municipal Theater, talking and criticizing a little the state of post-pandemic numbness in which we found ourselves. Everyone overstimulated with the phone and social networks”says Cruzalegui.

Despertar will feature the participation of a full band, dance choreography by Verónica Garrido-Lecca and guest artists, such as: Eve Matin, Moncho Berry, Cecilia Bracamonte, among others. Tickets are on sale at Teleticket.

The artistic career of Cruzalegui It started in 2019. Before that, I had studied medicine for four years. She will never forget that Skype with her parents informing them of her decision to leave her degree to dedicate herself to audiovisual production, after meeting the duo Alejandro and María Laura.

“I realized that I want to dedicate myself to this fully. I recorded my first songs in March 2019 and we started with promotion for August. Then the pandemic would arrive. I have been resuming projects. In the last year we have been working on a lot of music that will soon see the light of day. I feel like it’s a new stage. We will present three or four songs before the album,” she says.

He has just returned from Buenos Aires, where he was recording a collaboration with Kevin Johansen. His ability to explore a wide range of musical genres, ranging from pop to traditional Latin American rhythms and drum and bass, demonstrates the versatility and originality that characterize his sound proposal.

“I met Kevin when we opened a show for him in Lima. That day we talked a lot, there was a beautiful connection. We exchange phone numbers. And so as not to be too intense, after a month of knowing each other I wrote to him. I sent him part of a job he was doing so he could give me his opinion. He responded to me about a week later with a voicemail. He told me that he was thinking of a chorus. He couldn’t believe it. Then I told him if there was an opportunity to record a song with him, there. That was in December 2022 and a year later, in December 2023 we recorded ‘No me lo creo’“, highlights the national artist.

The new song of Carlos Cruzalegui in collaboration with Kevin Johansen will arrive with a video clip in two weeks. It is a reflection about who has the power in times when the people seem to have stopped having a voice. “This song brings out a side of me that sometimes I try to hide because I want to appear more charming and calm,” she says.

With his music, Cruzalegui seeks to connect with people and make his audience feel identified with his musical deliveries.

I don’t have a date for the album yet. It will depend on budgets. Kevin’s thing will be out in two weeks. I have knocked on many doors and I will continue to knock on them. Now several have opened, I just hope to be up to the task. We have found more ethereal paths. You never know what’s going to happen”, he remarks.
