Sean Penn shoots documentary in Ukraine, filming takes place under great secrecy

American actor and producer Sean Penn He is in the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, to film a documentary about the country, according to the Ukrainian medium TSN, which assures that the filming is taking place under great secrecy.

The same source published a video in which Penn is captured interviewing people and visiting the memorial dedicated to the more than one hundred deceased in the revolution known as “Euromaidan”, which broke out at the end of 2013 due to the refusal of the Government of Víktor Yanukovych to sign an association agreement with the EU.

The victims are known as the “Heroes of the Celestial Century” and the memorial is frequently visited by leaders and politicians from around the world on their trips to the Ukrainian capital.

According to TSN, the American actor will also visit in the next few days the front of the conflict that has faced the Ukrainian Army with the pro-Russian rebels in Donbas since 2014 and in which some 14,000 people have died, according to the UN.

During his stay in Kiev, Penn also recorded an interview with a war veteran and now a pizzeria owner, Leonid Ostaltsev, who posted a photo and video of the meeting with the Hollywood star on his social media.

The actor and film producer has won the Oscar twice – in 2004 for “Mystic River” (Clint Eastwood) and in 2009 for “Milk” (“My name is Harvey Milk”, Gus Van Sant) – and was nominated for another three : “Sweet and Lowdown” (“Chords and disagreements”, 1999, Woody Allen), “I Am Sam” (“I am Sam”, 2001, Jesse Nelson) and “Dead Man Walking” (“Death penalty”, 1996 , Tim Robbins).

Penn was against the Iraq war, defended all kinds of humanitarian causes and the rights of the LGBTI community.

He also defended the democratic election of Hugo Chávez, interviewed Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán when he was on the run from justice and opened through his own charity, CORE (Community Organized Relief Effort), a covid-19 testing center in a humble area of ​​California (United States).
