With the bank holiday approaching in early May, many of us are planning what to do on our days off in London and the UK.

It falls on Monday, May 1, which means a long weekend for many people – and there are two other holidays to look forward to later in the month.

But does the usual schedule of trains, subways and buses change on weekends and Mondays?

Here’s everything you need to know to explore the capital and beyond during the bank holiday weekend in early May.

According to National Rail there changes will be during the bank holiday weekend in early May.

Some are due to major construction works, while some railway companies will make other changes to their usual timetable.

For example, there will be one limited service between London Euston and Milton Keynes Central on Avanti West Coast on Saturday 29 April and Bank Holiday Monday 1 May with the line completely closed between these two stations on Sunday 30. This is due to major technical work.

On Sunday 30 April due to C2C technical work in between London Liverpool Street and BarkServices via West Ham are diverted to London Fenchurch Street.

The South Western Railway has construction work in the Basingstoke area and on the route between Virginia Water and Reading and in Camberley which will affect operations.

It also closes from Liverpool Street to Newbury Park and Woodford, including Saturday Night Tube Saturday April 29 to Monday May 1.

It will also be closed Sunday April 30 between Euston and Watford Junction and Clapham Junction to Willesden Junction until 9:30 amand Liverpool St to EnfieldTown, Cheshunt and Chingford until 10:15 am.

The London Overground will also be closed Sunday April 30 to Monday May 1 from Woodgrange Park to Barking Riverside.

By Monday May 1 (until Thursday 4 May) it closes from Hackney Downs to Chingford and to Enfield Town and Cheshunt after 10.45pm.

The Waterloo & City line does not work on weekends and holidays.

Are there buses on the public holiday in early May?

There are some changes to the bus schedule Saturday 29.04 – including routes 35, 40, 62, 145, 294, 345 and 368 – and temporarily on routes 13, 113, 253, 254 and 268.

There will also be changes to the bus stops around Ealing Broadway station – full details of this and changes to the timetable will be published on the TfL website.

a Sunday timetable will run all day on bus routes and the normal Monday night schedule on night buses on public holiday Monday, May 1.

Lines 327, 346, 347, 375, 377, 383, 385, 389, 399, 424, 467, 470, 497, 549, H3, K4, K5, R2, R5, R8, R10, S3, S4, U10, and X68 should don’t work today.
