The resignation of Jean Rottner: a complaint of “illegal receipt of interest” filed against the ex-president of Grand Est

Jean Rottner, president of the Grand Est region, announced his resignation in December. The former mayor of Mulhouse put forward “family imperatives” to justify his retirement from public life. This departure surprised many, including those in the ranks of his majority. Ten days after the announcement, elected officials learned that Jean Rottner was about to take over the Grand Est branch of the consulting firm and real estate developer Réalités.

Anti-Corruption Association AC!! has just announced that it has filed a complaint against X, according to France Bleu, with the national financial prosecutor’s office for favoritism and illegal interest taking. “For me, Jean Rottner is a luxury reseller who is in this new location thanks to the Grand Est Ski Jump. I don’t understand how he could end up there in real estate as a doctor. I think an investigation is needed,” explains one of the participants, Marcel Claude, France Bleu Alsace.

He is replaced by Frank Leroy.

The association is asking for an investigation to ensure that everything was done in accordance with the rules, in particular the €5,000 per month remuneration paid for three years to Jean Rottner for advisory missions while he was president of the region.

This complaint is in addition to the more political approach of Laurent Jacobelli, President of the National Rally Elected Representative Group in the Grand Est Region, who, for his part, seized the High Authority for the transparency of public life.

The new president of the Grand Est region was also elected this Friday morning at the plenary meeting in Metz. It was the first vice-president Frank Leroy from the majority (LR, centrist and relatives) who won the vote against Laurent Jacobelli, deputy of the Moselle National Rally and representative of the RN.
