Emmanuel Macron will travel to Roubaix on Thursday to pay tribute to the three slain police officers.

Emmanuel Macron will travel on Thursday with the families and colleagues of the three policemen who died in a car accident in Roubaix on Sunday. The President of the Republic will honor their memory at the National Police School in this northern city.

“This accident happened during the operation to rescue the victims, which illustrates the essence of the mission entrusted to them. An everyday mission in which the police intervene to protect the French,” explains Champs Elysees.

Three young policemen were killed in a clash in the north on Sunday, according to an investigation file released on Monday by the Lille public prosecutor. They were hit by a car moving in the wrong direction, moving at an excessive speed, the driver of which was heavily intoxicated and under the influence of drugs.

This driver, who died as a result of shock, has a blood alcohol level of 2.08 g/L and also tested positive for cannabis.

This man, aged 24, and his passenger, aged 23 and seriously injured, were known to the police for their use of alcohol, drugs and insults.

Girl with severe injuries

“The first elements of the investigation support the hypothesis of a head-on collision between two vehicles,” said Ms. Etienne, while video surveillance and eyewitness testimony suggest that the car, an Alfa Romeo, “moved against the direction of travel.” “.

This car’s speedometer is stuck just below 120 km/h. The police brigade, for its part, circulated “with a flashlight.” An investigation into murders and unintentional injuries has been launched.

The collision, which was very violent and severely injured a young girl sitting in a police car, took place on Sunday around 7:00 am on the RD 700 at Villeneuve d’Ascq.

The three dead police officers, two 25-year-old men and a 24-year-old woman, took up their duties an hour earlier, according to Thierry Courcusse, director of the Department of Public Security (DDSP) in the North.

They transported the 16-year-old girl to Lille’s forensic ward “to be urgently examined by a doctor as part of an investigation into the injuries she reported during the night,” according to the prosecutor.
