China proposes bridge over Luen at Montargis to celebrate long history of friendship

Still nursing its painful wounds six months after the terrible night of urban unrest on June 30, 2023, following Naël’s death, the city of Montargis (Loiret) places 2024 as a year of hope and recovery. The bridge is topped with a pagoda roof about forty meters long. will soon cross the Luan River, which crosses Venice Gatiné.

A gift from the Chinese state in honor of long years of friendship with the Loiret commune. From 1902 to the late 1920s, Montargis attracted some 4,000 Chinese intellectuals, including future dignitaries such as future Chinese number one Deng Xiaoping and Xiang Jingyu, the first woman to open a school in China. Originally from Hunan province, they came to study and work in the city’s factories. Since the city is a place of pilgrimage for many Chinese tourists.

The bridge in question was designed by architect Zhang Chunyan, dean of the Tianjin Faculty, and its construction will be entrusted to a subsidiary of a construction company from the Middle Kingdom. Work is expected to begin in the spring, once soil surveys are completed. Looking to the future, the mayor of Montargis, Benoit Dijon (LR), is to sign a partnership agreement with the project manager for the supply of “what should be a tourist attraction by the end of 2024,” he rejoices.

Here we begin to dream that Xi Jinping, the current number one in China, will honor the invitation to Montargis sent to him in November by a letter from Benoit Dijon. The Chinese President had actually planned to visit France in 2024 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
