FIFA finally ruled in relation to the suspended match between the Argentine and Brazilian teams in the framework of the Qualifiers for the Qatar 2022 World Cup. The commitment, agreed for September of last year, suffered an unexpected interruption in the first minutes. After that, the sports entity carried out an investigation and issued a ruling.

“After a thorough investigation of the various factual elements and in light of the applicable regulations, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee has decided that the match should be replayed on a date and place decided by FIFA”details the official note regarding the traditional confrontation in South America.

According to information from the newspaper Olé, Argentina-Brazil could be played on a neutral field and in June. In that month, with the South American Qualifiers already finished, the Albiceleste and the Canarinha will be free. In addition, the European representatives will have activity in the League of Nations of that continent.

As it is recalled, the match was stopped just in the sixth minute, as the Brazilian health authorities entered the stadium with the intention of arresting the Argentine players. At that time, local laws had restrictions regarding travelers from England. In the Albiceleste delegation there were athletes who play in the Premier League.

Precisely, FIFA punished the Argentines Emiliano Buendía, Emiliano Martínez, Giovani Lo Celso and Cristian Romero, who are active in English football. The aforementioned athletes were sanctioned with two official matches, so they will not be at the closing of the Qualifiers against the teams of Venezuela and Ecuador.

Likewise, the Brazilian Football Confederation must pay close to 600 thousand dollars for “for infractions related to order and security”. While the Argentine Soccer Association more than 200 thousand dollars for “Breach of their obligations in terms of order and security, preparation and participation in the match”.

Along the same lines, FIFA determined that each Conmebol federation must pay more than 50 thousand dollars “As a consequence of abandoning the party”. And it is that, after the scandalous process, both teams went inside the stadium until the final cancellation of the clash was confirmed.
