Maxi Rodríguez announced his retirement with an emotional clip: “I don’t have anything else to give”

Retirement from professional football is an issue that at some point comes to mind for footballers when they reach a certain age. It was no different with Maximiliano Rodríguez, who after analyzing it well, at the age of 40 decided to put an end to his successful and long career in this sport.

“The moment came when I thought it would never come to me or that as a soccer player we don’t want this moment to come to put a close on my professional career. It is a very difficult decision to make, but at the same time I am very calm, it was many years of career, I think I gave myself to the maximum and that I completely emptied myself, I no longer have anything to give “, was the initial message with which the Newell’s idol made the news known, in an emotional video posted on social networks.

“Many things come to mind, especially when I started in baby soccer and my grandfather took me kicking. When I was not working, my mother also accompanied me a lot and my grandmother waited for me at my house with the food prepared for me to arrive and I ate well “, recalled the athlete who just a few days ago gave the victory to ‘Lepra’ over Central Córdoba for the Professional League of Argentina.

Maxi Rodríguez could not contain his tears and had a special thanks to his wife and other family members who were with him on this path.

“I think they were the most important pillar to get to the first division, which was the most important dream I had, which was to play in the first division of Newell’s. There I already started a different adventure with my wife, who was the one who accompanied me to Europe from the first moment and the one who was always there in bad times and always gave me support to never lower her arms ”, said.

There was also a dedication to the clubs in which he played, to the coaches who led him and he was satisfied that his daughters could see him celebrate a title with Newell’s.

“It is difficult to speak, to be able to express myself, but hey, I want to do it that way, naturally, as I am. Something simple and straightforward. Thank everyone in football who has always treated me with great affection. I send you all a hug “, he also expressed.

In addition to Newell’s, where he began and ended his career, Maxi Rodríguez also wore the shirts of Espanyol, Atlético de Madrid, Liverpool and Peñarol. At the national level, the midfielder played the 2006, 2010 and 2014 World Cups and the 2005 Confederations Cup.
