Global sales of electric cars doubled in 2021

The enrollment rate of electric vehicles in the world accelerated remarkably last year with 6.6 million units sold, which means twice as much as in 2020, when there had already been a growth of 41%.

The International Energy Agency (IEA) highlights this Monday in its annual report on electric vehicles that despite supply problemsthe registration trend remains strong so far this year, with two million sales in the first quarter.

At the end of 2021 there were around 16.5 million electric vehicles worldwide, a figure that has tripled since 2018.

China was once again the main market for this type of vehicle last year, with 3.3 million sales, practically three times more than in 2020.

Europe was this time relegated to second position, and this despite the fact that its increase was 65%, to 2.3 million units. The United States more than doubled its numbers to 630,000.

One of the reasons for the expansion of the electric vehicle in China has to do with costs, since the price differential with respect to conventional vehicles with an internal combustion engine has been reduced to 10%.
