Microsoft will end the AltSpaceVR platform on March 10

Microsoft It will stop supporting its AltspaceVR platform on March 10, with the aim of focusing its efforts on immersive experiences powered by Microsoft Mesh.

AltspaceVR is a hybrid reality platform that the company acquired in 2017 in which events and social spaces can be organized and users can participate in real time in the form of an avatar.

Microsoft Mesh, on the other hand, is a virtual reality platform that the company presented as part of the Microsoft Ignite 2021 developer event and that allows you to interact and collaborate with other people holographically as if they were present in the same room.

Microsoft has acknowledged that although it launched AltspaceVR with the goal of “bringing people together, creating connections and shared experiences” in virtual reality (VR), now has a bigger goal and seeks “a more open, accessible and safe version of immersive experiences in the metaverse”.

In order to continue working in this direction, it has announced the closure of AltspaceVR, which will take effect on March 10, 2023, for “to support immersive experiences powered by Microsoft Mesh”.
