WITH THE FACE UNCOVERED

Spain, which has had one of the most restrictive regulations during the worst of the pandemic, “freed” citizens from wearing the mask last June, after 400 days, when the incidence was reduced to less than 100 cases. per 100,000 inhabitants at 14 days.

However, the explosion of a sixth wave, which began in October, caused the Government to re-impose the use of the face mask in the month of December, at the gates of Christmas, when the incidence of the pandemic was skyrocketing and also , there were gatherings of friends and family on the occasion of the festivities.

Already then the government said that this measure, criticized by some sectors as ineffective, would be for the minimum time necessary to try to contain the rise in cases due to the advance of the omicron variant.

From next Thursday it will be possible to go out with your face uncovered, even in streets where there are crowds, something that did not happen last summer, when you did have to wear a mask in that case.

Nothing changes in closed spaces, as the Ministry of Health recalled today in a press release, where its use is mandatory, so it will have to be carried on public transport, in stores, museums, libraries, schools, health centers….

Although Spain has the advantage of its high vaccination coverage, “prudence must continue to prevail in these circumstances,” Rodríguez said when asked about the use of masks indoors.

THE PANDEMIC CONTINUES TO LOW

While the restrictions are relaxed, the cases of COVID-19 continue to decline and this Tuesday the accumulated incidence fell 104 points, although it remains above 1,800 cases per 100,000 inhabitants at 14 days.

According to the latest data from the Ministry of Health, they reported 43,831 new infections and 361 deaths were added to the official count.

The total number of deaths certified by COVID-19 during the pandemic amounts to 94,931 and confirmed cases exceed 10.4 million.

Despite these strong data, due to the expansion of the omicron variant, transmission decreased in all regions in the last four days.
