Russian attack on a queue to buy bread in Chernigov leaves 10 dead, according to Ukraine

At least ten people have died in the northern city of Chernigov. Ukrainewhen Russian troops reportedly fired on a queue of citizens waiting to buy bread, Ukraine’s State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection reported.

“In Chernigov, Russian troops fired on people queuing to buy bread: at least 10 dead,” the State Service explained on its Twitter account about an event for which there is still no detailed information from the Ukrainian government.

A correspondent for the local media outlet Suspilne, who said he witnessed the incident, also reported the shooting and confirmed the number of fatalities, which he put at a dozen, Interfax-Ukraine reported.

For its part, the Ukrainian agency Ukrinform reported that the event occurred around 10:00 local time (08:00 GMT).

“Today, Russian forces shot and killed 10 people lining up to buy bread in Chernihiv. These horrific attacks must stop,” the US embassy said on its Twitter account.

“We are considering all available options to ensure accountability for any heinous crimes in Ukraine,” the US diplomatic mission added.
