Lula’s party calls Bolsonaro’s appeal against elections a “ruse”

The Workers’ Party (PT), the force led by the president-elect of Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silvadescribed this Tuesday as a “ruse” the petition presented by the formation of the current president, Jair Bolsonaroso that Justice annuls the elections.

The leader was the first PT spokesperson to react to the announcement by the PL, the formation that supported the frustrated candidacy for re-election of the far-right leader, to ask the Superior Electoral Tribunal (TSE) to invalidate the elections on the grounds that the oldest electronic ballot boxes they cannot be audited.

”Bolsonaro’s appeal before the TSE is a ruse that must be sanctioned as litigation in bad faith. Enough of malice, irresponsibility and insult to institutions and democracy”Hoffmann said in a message on Twitter.

“The election was decided by vote and Brazil needs peace to build a better future,” added the party leader in response to the Bolsonaro militants who refuse to accept the result of the elections and who allege without evidence that Lula’s victory was the product of fraud with the polls.

In his petition, despite not denouncing a fraud, the PL requests “invalidate” the results of the electronic ballot boxes of older models, which are more than half, because it considers them impossible to audit.

According to an audit commissioned by the party, Bolsonaro It was the most voted in the newest model ballot boxes, manufactured from 2020, with 51.05% of the votes.

According to the official result, Lula prevailed in the second round of the elections on October 30 with 50.9% of the votes, compared to the 49.1% obtained by Bolsonaro.

The ballot boxes were endorsed by numerous official bodies, including the Armed Forces, which found no evidence of fraud in their report on the elections, but neither did they rule out the possibility that it could have occurred.

Until now, Bolsonaro has not publicly acknowledged his defeat or congratulated his rival, although he has allowed the transition to begin with the team designated by Lula for that purpose.

Since the day after the elections, thousands of far-right activists have been camped out at the gates of dozens of barracks in various cities across the country, demanding a coup to prevent Lula’s inauguration, but until now the military has completely ignored that move.
