A three-year-old boy has died after being hit by his father’s lawnmower.
The boy was taken to Pambula District Hospital with serious injuries on Saturday afternoon after being hit by the mower blades.
Police officers were called to hospital around 12:30 a.m. after the child was admitted.
The toddler later died despite attempts at resuscitation by paramedics, police said.
“He stabbed the poor boy in the back. He didn’t see him,” said a police spokesman.
Police are not expected to press charges, but must investigate such deaths to provide a report to the coroner.
A spokesman said: “I don’t think anything you can do to the father will change his feelings.
“It’s unusual. It’s not death by natural causes, so we do what we do.”
Karen Wright, a councilor for Bega Valley Shire in South Pambula, said: “It’s an absolute tragedy and my heart goes out to the family.”
A report will be sent to the coroner in the next few days.
