“They are going to kill me here”: terrifying testimony of a woman in a bodega robbery in Bogotá

In the early hours of March 25, a million-dollar robbery took place in a warehouse located in the town of Puente Aranda, in the center-west of Bogotá, Colombia. The cameras in the sector captured more than 15 criminals breaking into the establishment, after getting out of a van.

Two individuals dressed as police officers and wearing bulletproof vests initially approached the door to ask the guard if he had heard a shot. “They ring here (in the warehouse) and the guard, as he sees that he is the authority, opens to give the information that they were requesting. The surprise is that he is reduced and they get out of a van as seen in the videos, “a man told ‘CityTv’.

At least six warehouse workers were intimidated with firearms after the alleged police officers got on a motorcycle and left. The security videos show that, seconds later, about 13 people got out of the minivan to enter the place. Outside there were two.

Once they entered, the thieves subdued the people who were working inside. With blows, threats and intimidation, they immobilized them one by one.

One of the workers who was in the warehouse the day of the robbery, told “Noticias Caracol” the moments of anguish he experienced, after the subjects pointed a gun at him and, later, forced him to lie on the ground.

”They put us to bed again, pointing at us and then they tell us ‘don’t look at our faces.’ At that moment, I get more nervous,” said the man. A woman, who was on the second floor, also shared with the aforementioned newscast how the events occurred: “He came in and told me: ‘National Police’. He opened the door, pointed at me, but I saw him in civilian clothes and I told him: ‘You’re not the police.’ He told me: ‘Are you going to get yourself killed?’ I already said: ‘They are going to kill me here’”.

According to the story, the woman, along with her companions, was held for a period of 3 hours. A forklift driver, on the other hand, was forced to introduce the stolen merchandise to the trucks. Apart from the minivan, the criminals had three vehicles strategically located on the outskirts of the warehouse. In them, they transported food, alcoholic beverages and products that, in total, amounted to around 800 million pesos.

Along with the groceries, the thieves also took the warehouse’s security cameras. What they did not count on was that both inside and outside there was another surveillance system that allowed them to find out in detail how the million-dollar robbery was carried out.

According to ‘Noticias Caracol’, the Police found the trucks involved in the theft in a parking lot in the town of Fontibón; with them was also all the stolen merchandise. However, there was no trace of those responsible. So far, the identity of the subjects is not known and it has not been possible to clarify the participation of the alleged police officers in the event.
