New York: One dead and 4 injured when a 4-story parking lot collapses

One person was killed and five more were injured when a four-story parking garage collapsed in Bajo Manhattan for unknown reasons, according to firefighters from NY.

The car park, built in 1957, is a four-story structure that rises above the ground (as is customary in NYwithout underground levels) and is located in the ann streetnext to the private university PACE.

Around 4 p.m. local time, all four floors collapsed for unknown reasons, leaving vehicles piled on top of each other, according to spontaneously recorded video footage.

The chief of operations of the New York fire department, John Espositoexplained that his men found six people inside: one dead and five wounded who are in condition “stable”.

The firefighters who participated in the first rescue tasks had to leave the building for fear that the structural damage would cause another collapse of the remains; the agents continued the searches with robot dogs and drones so as not to endanger their staff.
