Washington approved the sale of anti-aircraft missile systems to Ukraine
On Wednesday, the United States announced the sale of advanced NASAMS air defense systems to Ukraine for about $285 million.
“Ukraine urgently needs to strengthen its defense capabilities against missile strikes and Russian aircraft,” the US Defense Cooperation Agency (DSCA) said in a statement.
The State Department approved the sale, which was notified to the US Congress, which has not yet given a green light.
Air defense proved to be a decisive factor in the conflict against the barrage of Russian missiles.
This sale of NASAMS systems parallels the billions of dollars of military aid the United States has provided to Ukraine since the start of the Russian offensive on February 24, 2022.
12th Russian drone attack on Kyiv in May
A new “massive” attack of Russian drones on Kyiv on the “twelfth” of May. Russia “again attacked Kyiv from the air,” Sergei Popko, head of the civil and military administration of Kyiv, wrote on Telegram, adding that the air raid in the city lasted more than three hours.
“According to preliminary information, Shahed-type drones participated in this “massive” attack,” he said.
“Guardian angels of Ukraine did not give the aggressor a chance. All air targets flying towards Kyiv were destroyed by our air defense,” he said.
According to Popko, the previous airstrike on the city took place four days ago.
The authorities announced that at night in other settlements, in particular in Kharkiv (east) and Chernivtsi (west), air raid alerts were activated.
