A former leader of an ultra-right group is sentenced to 22 years in prison for assaulting the US Capitol.

Enrique Tarrioformer leader of the American far-right group Proud Boyswas sentenced this Tuesday to 22 years in prison, the harshest sentence imposed so far for the attack on the Capitol of USA on January 6, 2021.

Prosecutors had sought a 33-year prison term for Tarrio, who was not in the US capital on January 6 but was accused of leading the assault on Congress by members of the Proud Boys.

Tarrio, 39, and several other members of that militia were convicted of seditious conspiracy in May for their role in trying to prevent certification of the Democrat’s electoral victory. Joe Biden in 2020 over the republican donald trump.

Another member of the Proud Boys, Ethan Nordean32, was sentenced by Judge Kelly last week to 18 years in jail.
