India: police identify all those involved in the rape of a Spanish tourist

Indian police assured this Sunday that they had identified everyone involved in the attack and gang rape of a Spanish tourist who was traveling with her husband in the northeast of the country. Indiawhile only three suspects were arrested.

“Since we have identified everyone’s names (…) During interrogation, the defendants confessed to their participation in the matter (…) the rest will be arrested soon“said the local police superintendent at a press conference, Pitambar Singh Kherwar.

The event, which received widespread media attention, in part because it involved foreigners, was considered a “very serious case”So the police constituted two special investigation teams (SITs) for the procedure.

“One of the teams will examine the evidence collection. And the second team was formed to capture the remaining accused; they (the SIT team) are constantly investigating and raiding the locations,” said Kherwar.

The couple, who has been traveling for several months to visit countries of Asiaset up a tent near a police station in the district of Dumkaof the state of Jharkhandto spend the night last Friday, when, around midnight, a group of men attacked them, several official sources told EFE.

The victims managed to communicate with a police patrol at around 2am on Saturday (approximately 21:30 GMT on Friday) and were taken to a local hospital.

The couple appeared in court this Sunday to give a statement to the judge, a police source close to the case told EFE.

Both have been staying since last night at an official local government residence in Dumka for their safety.

Police asked victims to avoid public statements so as not to affect the investigation.
