This measure does not affect law enforcement officers on duty, firefighters, ambulance personnel, health professionals and duly identified journalists.

Due to the state of emergency, all demonstrations on public roads are prohibited in the department of Westboth day and night.

The declaration – signed by Michel Patrick Boisvertwho serves as interim prime minister in the absence of Ariel Henriqueactually in Puerto Rico after days of unknown whereabouts – adds that law enforcement agencies were forced to use all legal means at their disposal to enforce the curfew and arrest violators.

Since February 28, there has been an escalation of violence in Haiti in the hands of armed gangs that control much of the Port Prince and other areas of the country and that in these days they attacked institutions, public and private companies or prisons, which allowed at least 3,000 prisoners to escape, including members and leaders of these gangs.

Last Friday they tried to take the National Palacebut they were repelled by security forces and also failed in their attempts to set fire to the interior Ministery.

The gangs demand Henry’s departure from power, on which pressure increases inside and outside Haiti to favor a transition that will help stop the acute crisis and extreme violence in the country.
