“Killers of the Flower Moon”: release date for the Martin Scorsese film with Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro

Martin Scorsese will premiere this 2023 “Killers of the Flower Moon”, a film in which Leonardo DiCaprio plays a serial killer who attacks the Native Americans of Oklahoma to seize their oil. Set in the 1920s, the film follows the situation of the Osage tribe, owners of a land rich in black gold, who are suddenly beset by mysterious murders and disappearances.

The trailer, which premiered at the Las Vegas movie theater owners’ convention, shows Leonardo DiCaprio as Ernest Burkhart, a man in love with a Native American (Lily Gladstone) who becomes embroiled in a conspiracy hatched by ranching magnate William Hale. , played by an oil-thirsty Robert De Niro. The film allows 80-year-old Martin Scorsese to bring two of his favorite actors together in a production for the first time: Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro. A duo investigated by an FBI agent, played by Jesse Plemons, tasked with solving the murders.

With this love story clouded by greed, the American film giant wanted to explore the motivations for the murder of the members of this indigenous tribe.

The director wanted to show how some Americans “were capable of rationalizing violence – even against those they loved – by simply saying: ‘This is civilization. One group goes in and another goes out,” he explained.

The film addresses “a forgotten part of our past,” said Leonardo DiCaprio, who was originally set to play the FBI detective but opted to play the killer after spending time with the Osage Indians.

The film was shot at the actual location of the events. The script was revised until the last day of shooting, according to Scorsese, who wanted to “do what’s right for them.”

“It was about immersing yourself in that world,” the New York director insisted, despite the heat and the coyotes of these Oklahoma prairies. “Killers of the Flower Moon” will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May, before hitting theaters in October.

Initially produced by Paramount studios, the three-and-a-half-hour-long film with a $200 million budget was acquired by Apple, which agreed to release it in theaters before offering it on its streaming platform, Apple TV+.

“I’m very happy to have a theatrical release before the movie is available at home, which is fine…” Scorsese insisted.

Produced by Netflix, his previous film, “The Irishman,” had only enjoyed a very limited theatrical release before landing on streaming.

“Killers of the Flower Moon” will be released on Friday, October 6 in theaters in the United States.

It can be seen on Apple TV + from October 20.
