Iran presents ballistic missile with a range of 1,450 kilometers “capable of penetrating anti-missile shields”

The Revolutionary Guard Iran on Wednesday unveiled a new ballistic missile with a range of 1,450 kilometers amid talks to salvage the 2015 nuclear pact.

“The strategic weapon is a third-generation long-range missile developed by the Revolutionary Guards, powered by solid fuel and with the ability to penetrate missile shields,” the Tasnim news agency reported.

The missileKheibar Shekan” (castle destroyer) was presented at the Revolutionary Guard Aerospace Base in the presence of the Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, General Mohamad Hossein Baqeri.

The announcement comes in full celebration of the 43rd anniversary of the triumph of the Islamic Revolution on February 11, 1979, led by Ayatollah Ruholá Khomeiní.

Iran During the last four decades, it has developed a national arms industry, due to the international embargo, with a special interest in missiles.

The iranian ballistic missiles they are a source of concern for the United States, Europe and some countries in the Middle East, although Tehran authorities say they only have a defensive and deterrent function.

In fact, the Iranian ballistic program was one of the reasons given by former US President Donald Trump for withdrawing his country from the 2015 multilateral nuclear agreement in 2018 and re-imposing sanctions on Tehran.

Iran is now negotiating with Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Russia, China, and the United States indirectly, to save the pact that limited the Iranian nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of sanctions.

The eighth round of those negotiations resumed in Vienna on Tuesday with the goal of Washington rejoining the pact and Tehran returning to full compliance.
