Biden says he “intends” to run for re-election in 2024

US President Joe Biden, who turns 80 in November, said on Friday he “intends” to run for re-election in 2024 but has not yet made a formal decision.

Asked about the matter on MSNBC, the Democrat said that if he didn’t make a decision right away, it was because once the announcement was made, “a whole bunch of rules came into play” and “I have to act as a candidate.”

“I haven’t officially made a decision yet, but that’s my intention. I intend to run again and we have time to make that decision,” he said.

Asked if his wife, Jill Biden, supports him running again, he said yes. “My wife thinks that we are doing something very important and that I should not shy away from it,” he said after a pause. Joe Biden has already expressed his “intent” to run again in September, while remaining cagey.

Joe Biden, the oldest president ever elected in the United States, will celebrate his 80th birthday on November 20. He will be 82 at the start of a possible second term and 86 at the end. His age regularly fuels rumors about the reality of a new candidacy.

Test of parliamentary elections in a few days

Joe Biden and his party are preparing to be tested by the traditionally difficult midterm parliamentary elections on November 8.

Among the Republican candidates in this election, some are campaigning on continuing to insist (falsely) that the 2020 presidential election, won by Joe Biden, was “stolen” from his predecessor, Donald Trump. The latter is increasingly openly flirting with the idea of running again in 2024.
